Reji Church (St Peter and St Paul Church)

St. Peter and St. Paul Church is located northeast of Ellisekiz Square. The building was built in 1861 on the ruins of a 6th century church. The church was built in memory of two of Jesus' apostles and bears their name. The building was actively used until 1924, when the Syrians from Urfa migrated to Aleppo (Syria).

St. Peter and St. Paul Church was first used as a tobacco factory and then as a grape warehouse by the Tekel administration in 1924. The church was named "Regie Church" by the public because of the French word "Tekel", Regie (Reji). The inscribed gravestones removed from the church were sent to the Urfa Museum. The church was restored by the Şanlıurfa Governorship in 1998 and opened as the "Governor Kemalettin Gazezoğlu Cultural Center" on May 24, 2002. It is still used for various social events today.
